Hungary’s EU Affairs Minister Accuses Formerly US-financed NGOs of Undermining Trust in Public Institutions
Hungary’s EU Affairs Minister, János Bóka, made shocking allegations against NGOs that were formerly financed by the US during a visit to Brussels on Wednesday. Bóka stated that these organizations were aiming to undermine trust in public institutions and destabilize the political regime in Hungary.
Speaking to Hungarian journalists, Bóka also criticized the lack of transparency in funding from EU resources. He highlighted that support contracts concluded by the European Commission did not meet the transparency requirements that apply to member states. Bóka pledged to request that instances of funding replacements by the EC, replacing the US Agency for International Development (USAID) as a financier, be made public.
