Hungary Government Pushes for Economic and Wage Growth Plan
The Hungarian government has unveiled an ambitious economic and wage growth plan with the goal of achieving a HUF 1 million average wage and a EUR 1,000 minimum wage by 2028. Márton Nagy, the national economy minister of Hungary, emphasized the need for guest workers to help realize these goals due to the tight job market in Hungary.
Anti-Migration and Anti-Guest Worker Campaign
In response to the migration crisis in Europe, the Hungarian government launched a large-scale campaign against illegal migration in 2015. The government’s communication strategy highlighted the importance of protecting Hungarian jobs from being taken by migrants. Number of Guest Workers Rising in Hungary

Minister Nagy acknowledged the tight labor market in Hungary and stressed the importance of welcoming guest workers to fill essential roles. The government plans to invest in retraining programs and initiatives to mobilize the inactive and unemployed workforce. The aim is to reach an employment rate of 85% by 2030.
Ambitious Wage Rise Project
The Hungarian government is determined to boost both the average wage and minimum wage in the country. The goal is to increase the average wage to HUF 1 million (EUR 2,500) and raise the minimum wage to EUR 1,000 by 2028. Economic growth is crucial for the successful implementation of these wage convergence programs.
In addition to the wage growth initiative, the government is focused on providing affordable housing for locals and supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
