Ibrahim Kalin Takes Over at MIT: What’s on the Agenda?
İbrahim Kalın takes over as head of Turkey’s intelligence agency
On June 6, 2023, İbrahim Kalın assumed the role of the Undersecretary of Turkey’s intelligence agency, taking over from Hakan Fidan. The two addressed the agency’s personnel and shared a brotherly hug during a ceremony at the intelligence headquarters in Ankara. Hande Fırat of CNN TÜRK reported that Kalın has already started receiving special briefings from all the presidency offices, adding that he will work within these briefings but won’t be in front of the cameras as he was before. Fidan will go on to work on a unique structure in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Two photographs from the Handover Ceremony were also shared exclusively for CNN TÜRK Night Vision. The Turkish government sees the head of MIT as an important role, and Kalın’s appointment reinforces the significance of the cyber defense and counter-terrorism units in the agency’s structure.
