Former Konyaspor Coach Bülent Korkmaz to Lead Caykur Rizespor in Upcoming Super League Season
Caykur Rizespor, the runner-up team in the Spor Toto 1st League, has found its new head coach for the upcoming Super League season. Bülent Korkmaz, who previously coached Konyaspor, and Ilhan Palut, agreed in principle to work together for the green-blue club. The club is expected to release an official statement announcing the agreement soon.
Korkmaz, 52, began his career as a player in 1985 with Karagumruk, and played for several other Turkish teams such as Galatasaray and Besiktas. He also played for the Turkish national team, appearing in 102 games and scoring three goals.
Since retiring from playing football in 2002, Korkmaz has had a successful career as a coach, working for teams such as Sanliurfaspor, Akhisarspor, Sivasspor, and Konyaspor. Konyaspor achieved great success under Korkmaz in the 2019-2020 season, finishing fifth in the Super League and making it to the Turkish Cup semifinals.
Caykur Rizespor will be Korkmaz’s next challenge, as the team looks to make its mark in the upcoming Super League season. The club gained promotion to the Super League by finishing in second place in the Spor Toto 1st League.
Korkmaz will be replacing Unal Karaman, who left his post as head coach of Caykur Rizespor to join Trabzonspor. Karaman had led the club to a successful season, finishing second in the Spor Toto 1st League and earning promotion to the Super League.
