Illegal Armenian Armed Groups Disrupt GPS Navigation Systems of Aircraft in Azerbaijan
Baku, July 15 – The Ministry of Defense has reported that illegal Armenian armed groups in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed, are using radio frequency interference against GPS satellite navigation systems of passenger aircraft belonging to both local and foreign airlines flying through the airspace of Azerbaijan, according to AZERTAC.
The incident occurred on July 13 when the Gulfstream G280 passenger aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines, which was en route from Zangilan to Fuzuli between 11:54 and 12:07, and from Fuzuli to Baku between 13:02 and 13:17, experienced degradation in its GPS satellite navigation system as a result of radio frequency interference.
The Ministry of Defense has expressed its concerns over the repeated use of radio interference by illegal Armenian armed groups against the GPS satellite navigation systems of passenger aircraft. Despite their repeated appeals to the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent regarding the serious threat posed to the safety of air transportation by such incidents, no measures have been taken thus far.
The disruption of GPS navigation systems poses a significant risk to the safety and security of passenger aircraft, potentially leading to accidents or other critical incidents.
