İmamoğlu’s Meeting with Minister Işıkhan: Latest News in Turkey
Ankara, Turkey – A surprise meeting took place in Ankara this evening as President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye and Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem İmamoğlu met with the Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan. The meeting centered around the SSI debts of municipalities.
The meeting, which lasted approximately 40 minutes and was hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, saw Social Minister Işıkhan sharing a post on his social media account afterwards. Minister Işıkhan expressed his gratitude for the visit from President İmamoğlu and his delegation, stating that they listened to the demands of local governments regarding social security and working life.
Following the meeting, İmamoğlu spoke with the press and revealed that a delegation will be established on Monday to work on finding solutions for the municipalities’ debts to SGK. He mentioned that the discussion revolved around medium-term borrowing and a reasonable process description. The aim is to achieve reconciliation and financial stability for the municipalities.
İmamoğlu also emphasized the need for different payment methods tailored to the possibilities of each municipality. He thanked the Minister of Labor and Social Security for the establishment of the productive and cooperative table, expressing hope for a healthy outcome from the ongoing discussions.
The negotiations, set to continue next week, aim to address the economic challenges faced by municipalities regarding their SSI debts. İmamoğlu assured that the discussions represent all municipalities, not just those of the opposition. The goal is to find viable solutions that will alleviate the financial burden on local governments and ensure sustainable budget planning.
