Implementation of Tariff Quota for Corn Imports

President’s Decision Published in Official Gazette to Regulate Corn Imports

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has announced a new decision to regulate corn imports in order to prevent speculative prices, ensure supply security in basic food products, and support domestic production. The decision was published in the Official Gazette following an evaluation of both producers and consumer welfare.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the new measures aim to address the inadequate domestic production of corn and prevent the negative impact of food prices. Starting from July 1, 2025, imports of corn from Egypt will be subject to a 130 percent customs duty in order to protect domestic producers and support local harvests.

The statement also outlined that a maximum of 8 thousand tons of imports can be carried out by a single user at a time, and a waiting period of 7 days should be expected for further imports. The Ministry emphasized the importance of fair and regulated imports to benefit both consumers and producers.

Furthermore, the Ministry assured that it will continue to closely monitor the supply, demand, and price levels in the market in coordination with other relevant institutions and organizations. Any necessary adjustments will be promptly implemented to maintain market stability and ensure the availability of essential food products for the country.
