Improved Relations between Hungary and Slovakia Beneficial for Both Countries, says FM Szijjártó

Hungary and Slovakia Strengthen Cooperation with Opening of New Hungarian Consulate General in Kostice
Hungary and Slovakia have recognized the importance of strong relations, as stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó during the inauguration of the new Hungarian Consulate General in Kostice. The Hungarian government highly values their ongoing cooperation and friendship with Slovakia, which is reflected in their commitment to further development.
Szijjártó highlighted that an increasing number of Hungarians are engaging in various activities in Kostice, prompting the decision to establish a consulate general. The primary focus of this development is to enhance economic, cultural, and sports relations between the two countries.
Furthermore, Szijjártó emphasized the significance of the Hungarian-Slovak border, which stretches across 654 kilometers. By the end of this year, the number of crossing points will increase from 16 in 2010 to 40, facilitating easier movement and trade between the nations.
Slovakia holds the position of being Hungary’s third largest trading partner, with bilateral trade valued at 17 billion euros in the previous year, setting a new record. Additionally, there is a sizeable Hungarian community in Slovakia, consisting of half a million individuals, and Hungary is also home to a considerable Slovak community.
Szijjártó expressed his belief that the commonalities between Hungary and Slovakia far outweigh any differences, emphasizing the need to focus on what connects the two nations. He was optimistic about future bilateral cooperation and stressed the importance of representing their national interests and original European values together.
This development signifies the growing significance of the Hungarian-Slovak relationship and sets a positive foundation for continued collaboration and mutual growth in various sectors.
