Inaugural Commercial Flight Takes Off from Sabiha Gökçen Airport’s 2nd Runway

The first commercial flight from the 2nd runway of Sabiha Gökçen Airport was successfully completed today. This newly opened runway was inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, marking a significant milestone for the airport.

The flight, operated by Pegasus Airlines, was carried out by a Boeing 737-800 type aircraft and was en route to Helsinki. The aircraft took off from Sabiha Gökçen Airport at 11:10, signifying the first-ever commercial flight from the newly opened 2nd runway.

It has been announced that both runways will be utilized for flights from the airport today. Additionally, the second runway, which measures 3,540 meters in length and 60 meters in width, will be able to accommodate wide-body aircraft for both takeoff and landing.

Adjacent to the runway, a middle apron of 650 thousand square meters, with a capacity of 62 aircraft, has been constructed. Furthermore, a cargo apron spanning approximately 300 thousand square meters, designed to accommodate 40 aircraft, has also been established. This is in addition to the three parallel taxiways, one with a length of 3,520 meters, another with a length of 3,000 meters, and the third with a length of 2,400 meters.

This development marks a significant expansion of the airport’s operational capabilities and will contribute to the improvement of air travel in the region. With the successful completion of the first commercial flight from the 2nd runway, Sabiha Gökçen Airport has further solidified its position as a key hub for air travel and transportation.
