Inaugural IMM Assembly Meeting Led by Chair Nuri Aslan
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly convened for the first time under the chairmanship of Nuri Aslan. This meeting came after IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu was dismissed by the Ministry of Interior on March 26.
Nuri Aslan was elected as the new chairman with 177 votes during an extraordinary session of the Assembly. Addressing the members of the Assembly, Aslan emphasized that the work of the Assembly would be based on the local elections of March 31, 2024. He also highlighted the challenges faced by the Assembly in the wake of İmamoğlu’s dismissal.
During the meeting, various agenda items were discussed, including the presentation of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality 2024 Annual Report and the discussion of the activities of IETT General Directorate. The reports were scheduled to be reviewed in subsequent meetings.
The election of municipal council members from different political groups was also a key agenda item. Ultimately, candidates from the CHP group secured 165 votes, while candidates from the AK Party group received 102 votes.
Furthermore, the members of various commissions were determined during the meeting. The Assembly announced that the next session would take place on Wednesday, April 16 at 14:00.
The IMM Assembly’s meeting under the leadership of Nuri Aslan marked a pivotal moment in the municipality’s governance following the recent changes in leadership. Aslan and the newly elected members are expected to work together to fulfill their responsibilities and serve the citizens of Istanbul effectively.
