Increase in Bishkek’s Cold Water Tariff from June 1st

Starting June 1, residents of Bishkek will be paying more for cold water, according to a decision made by the Bishkek City Council. The new tariff will be 10.45 soms for every cubic meter of water, excluding taxes. Meanwhile, budgetary organizations will have to pay 12.95 soms per cubic meter and other consumers will pay 18.5 soms.
Additionally, wastewater disposal fees will increase to 3.45 soms for the general population, 4.5 soms for budgetary organizations, and 9 soms for other consumers. The new rates are expected to cover the cost of intra-house public water supply and sewerage networks in multi-apartment residential buildings.
For multi-apartment residential buildings, the tariff per 1 square meter of total area per year, excluding taxes, will be 15.1 soms for both the general population and other consumers. The last time the tariff was increased was in November 2019, when it was raised to 8.1 soms per cubic meter of water, from 5.38 soms. Meanwhile, wastewater disposal fees were nearly doubled, from 1.2 soms to 2.3 soms.
The price hikes are expected to help improve the quality of water supply and sewerage networks in Bishkek. The income will also be utilized for the maintenance of the water supply system and cover the costs of constructing new water supply networks in the city.
