Indictment Details Youth Wing Activities of Terrorist Organization

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has indicted 17 suspects for their involvement in organizational activities related to the armed terrorist organization PKK/KCK. The suspects were reportedly active in youth structures called the “Free Student Initiative” and “Democratic Student Assembly”.

According to the indictment, these suspects carried out actions in Turkey on behalf of the so-called “Democratic Student Assembly”. The organization was established upon the instructions of high-ranking PKK leaders, including Duran Kalkan and Nurettin Demirtaş. The suspects were particularly active in universities in major cities, where they displayed banners and posters of the terrorist organization’s leader, chanted slogans in favor of the organization, and instilled its ideology in university students.

The indictment revealed that the suspects meticulously approached university students in metropolitan cities to ensure their participation in the rural areas of the organization. They organized meetings and events in cities like Ankara, Eskişehir, İstanbul, and Diyarbakır, where they glorified members of the organization, observed moments of silence for neutralized PKK members, and conducted “guerrilla marches”.

The suspects were operating within the youth structure of the PKK terrorist organization, known as the “Ankara Democratic University Initiative”. The organization has undergone different name changes over the years, aligning its actions with the goals and ideology of the PKK. The suspects were accused of being members of an armed terrorist organization and making propaganda for a terrorist organization.

The defendants are facing severe prison sentences ranging from 7 years and 6 months to 15 years for their involvement with the terrorist organization. The prosecutor also requested additional prison sentences for some of the defendants for making propaganda for the organization. The indictment highlights the systematic efforts of these suspects to promote the PKK/KCK’s ideology and recruit university students into their ranks.
