Interim Decision in Ayhan Bora Kaplan Case to be Revealed Monday – Latest News in Turkey
The trial of 61 defendants in the Ayhan Bora Kaplan criminal organization case is ongoing, with the recent 16th session being held at the Ankara 32nd High Criminal Court. The courtroom was filled with defendants, their relatives, and lawyers. However, one of the lawyers, Sinan Kocaoğlu, representing detained defendant Barış Kurt, was removed from the courtroom for disrupting the hearing order.
During the session, defendant Sercan Keleş spoke about his involvement in the incident and his relationship with Semih Arslan, a member of the organization who died under suspicious circumstances. Keleş denied any involvement in Semih’s death, stating that he was there to support his friends during a difficult time. He admitted to taking drugs and passing out, which he believes may have led to the tragic event.
The defense lawyer for Ayhan Bora Kaplan, Rıdvan Şahin, argued that the police officers involved in the escape of a secret witness in the case should be tried alongside his client. He requested that the officers be brought to the court to answer questions and face trial.
The hearing was adjourned until Monday to evaluate the requests and make interim decisions. In the indictment, Ayhan Bora Kaplan and several other defendants face multiple charges including establishing an armed organization, deliberate killing, deliberate wounding, and more. Various periods of imprisonment have been requested for the remaining 55 defendants.
The trial continues to unfold as more details about the criminal organization and the events surrounding it come to light. Stay tuned for further updates on this case.
