Interior Ministry Probes Judge for Extortion

Investigation on Extortion Case Involving Kyrgyzstan Judge
The Investigative Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kyrgyzstan is currently looking into a criminal case involving extortion, with one of the defendants being a judge from a district court. The case came to light when a citizen reported to the police that an official had demanded $1,000 from him in exchange for resolving an issue related to a court case. The citizen claimed to have already given the official tens of thousands of soms in the past.
In November 2024, a criminal case was launched under Article 343 Part 1 “Extortion” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Through investigative work, it was determined that the judge was indeed involved in the crime, with evidence of money being received.
During the arrest, two intermediaries were caught in the act with marked banknotes seized from them. The Prosecutor General’s Office has also opened a criminal case against the judge for extortion, with the case now in the hands of the investigative service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for further examination.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities looking into the possible involvement of other individuals in this extortion case. Stay tuned for updates as the investigation progresses.
