International Conference Honors Magtymguly Fragi in Tbilisi
International Conference Held in Georgia to Honor Turkmen Poet Magtymguly Fragi
On 18 April 2024, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia, in collaboration with the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, organized an international scientific conference to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of the renowned Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi.
The event saw the participation of dignitaries from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ambassadors accredited in Georgia, representatives of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, the Korneli Kekelidze Georgian National Centre of Manuscripts, the Creative Union of Writers of Georgia, heads of higher education institutions, and members of the media.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan, Dovletmyrat Seyitmammadov, delivered a speech highlighting the significance of cultural dialogue in fostering mutual understanding between countries. The President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Roin Metreveli, emphasized the universal values portrayed in Magtymguly Fragi’s works, such as love for the Motherland, humanism, and brotherhood.
Academician Allaberdy Ashirov, President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, praised Magtymguly’s poetic heritage as a valuable contribution to world culture. The speakers acknowledged Magtymguly’s role as a unifying figure whose poetry transcends borders and resonates with people worldwide.
An exhibition showcasing books by Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as well as works by Magtymguly Fragi and artifacts highlighting Turkmenistan’s cultural heritage, was held during the conference. The event concluded with a screening of a film about Magymguly Fragi.
The conference underscored the enduring relevance of Magtymguly Fragi’s poetry and its ability to promote cultural exchange and understanding between Turkmenistan and Georgia.
