International Lawyers Appeal for Review of Death Sentences in the UAE
An international legal group based in Istanbul, Türkiye, known as the Worldwide Lawyers Association (WOLAS), has raised concerns about the death sentences imposed on three Uzbekistan citizens in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The lawyers are questioning the transparency of the judicial process, the independence of the judiciary, and the protection of the rights of the Uzbekistan nationals.
In their statement, WOLAS called for the UAE Supreme Court to annul the death sentences and reconsider the case based on legal standards rather than political considerations. They highlighted potential issues such as lack of transparency in the court proceedings, possible confessions obtained through torture, and the imposition of severe penalties for political reasons or symbolic gestures.

The UAE is called upon to annul the death sentences, conduct fair judicial proceedings, guarantee the independence of the judiciary, and prohibit the use of torture during investigations or trials.
The case in question involves the murder of Israeli-Moldovan citizen Rabbi Zvi Kogan in UAE, with three Uzbekistan citizens being found guilty and sentenced to death. The incident has led to challenges for Uzbekistan citizens in the UAE, with some facing issues related to entry, employment, and legal proceedings.
