
International Ministers of Culture Conference Commemorating Magtymguly Fragi’s 300th Birthday

An International Conference of Ministers of Culture was recently held to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi, a prominent Turkmen poet and thinker. The conference took place on May 17th and 18th, 2024, at the Ýyldyz hotel in the capital city.
Representatives from various international organizations and countries participated in the two-day forum. Attendees included leaders from organizations such as TURKSOY, ECO, and CIS, along with delegations from countries like Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Turkey, and China. The event also welcomed members of the National Commissions for UNESCO from TURKSOY member states, following their 10th meeting in Ashgabat.
Before the official sessions began, participants had the opportunity to explore an exhibition showcasing Magtymguly Fragi’s manuscripts. In their speeches, guests emphasized the importance of recognizing outstanding figures like Magtymguly Fragi, whose poetic and philosophical legacy has been acknowledged on an international level. UNESCO included a collection of his works in the Memory of the World program and designated the 300th anniversary as a significant date for 2024-2025.
The Year of the Great Poet and thinker of the Turkic world – Magtymguly Fragi was declared by TURKSOY in honor of the anniversary. Attendees expressed gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for organizing the celebrations and promoting international cooperation and cultural exchange.
The second day of the conference focused on four thematic sections related to Magtymguly Fragi’s life, philosophy, literary contributions, and global impact. Discussions centered on spreading awareness of his multifaceted heritage worldwide. The event served as a platform for fostering cultural dialogue and mutual understanding among nations, highlighting the enduring legacy of Magtymguly Fragi in the realm of literature and philosophy.
