Introducing Electronic Cargo Transport Permits in Uzbekistan and Mongolia

Uzbekistan and Mongolia to Double Cargo Transport Permits by 2025 and Implement E-Permit System

Uzbekistan and Mongolia have reached an agreement to double the number of cargo transport permits allocated for 2025. This decision comes as both countries aim to strengthen cooperation in international road transport. The implementation of an electronic system, E-Permit, is set to streamline the exchange of permit forms and accelerate cargo transportation, as reported by the Ministry of Transport’s press service.

A meeting of the Joint Uzbek-Mongolian Commission on International Road Transportation was recently held at the Ministry of Transport, emphasizing the significant potential for further enhancing their collaboration in this area. As part of the agreement, the two sides have decided to increase the number of permits allocated for 2025.

The E-Permit system was introduced for the first time between Uzbekistan and Turkey in November 2022, following an initiative by the Ministry of Transport. The system was designed to expedite transport operations and bolster trade between the two countries. In April 2024, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan launched the E-Permit system for international cargo transportation permits, currently operating in test mode and managed by specialists from the “Digital Transport” center at the Ministry of Transport.

Moreover, Uzbekistan has expressed its intentions to simplify cargo transportation with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries. The Ministry of Transport is in discussions to introduce E-Permit with Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan. Additionally, the Ministry aims to sign new international road transport agreements with Belgium, Armenia, Serbia, Norway, Croatia, Albania, and revise existing agreements with China, Iran, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania.

The implementation of the E-Permit system and the expansion of cargo transport permits between Uzbekistan and Mongolia signify a significant step towards enhancing efficiency and promoting trade relations between the two countries. This development also aligns with Uzbekistan’s broader efforts to modernize its transportation infrastructure and facilitate international trade.
