Investigation death of 21-year-old man in Chilanzar DIA leads to criminal case
Officials from the Chilanzar district Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) are under investigation for their actions in the death of Khafizullah Turgunov. The 21-year-old man died in the hospital due to his injuries after jumping from the toilet window on the 4th floor while being questioned by the DIA anti-narcotics department. It was later discovered that Turgunov had been apprehended after a car he was in passed through the “Erkin” traffic checkpoint, and a dark brown waxy substance believed to be hashish was found on one of the passengers.
Following an investigation, it was concluded that the officials from the district DIA have a case to answer under Article 208 of the Criminal Code – inaction of the authorities. Witnesses are being called to assess the situation and determine whether a crime has been committed. A criminal case has been opened, and the investigation has been assigned to the Chilanzar district prosecutor’s office.
The mysterious circumstances surrounding Turgunov’s death have caused uproar among the public. Turgunov’s family and friends have disputed the official account of events, and pressure from the public led to the release of video footage showing Turgunov’s alleged jump. However, a “journalistic inquiry” conducted by an employee of the Tashkent city DIA only served to raise more questions around the incident.
As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen whether those responsible will face justice for their part in Turgunov’s untimely death.
