
Investigation into PE teacher’s role in schoolgirl’s suicide in Issyk-Kul region

A tragic incident has shaken the community of Barskoon rural school in Issyk-Kul region, Kyrgyz Republic, as a 27-year-old physical education teacher has been detained in connection with the suicide of a schoolgirl. The 17-year-old girl was found hanged on a horizontal bar in the school’s sports hall on February 5. Despite receiving immediate first aid and being hospitalized, she tragically passed away on February 14 in the intensive care unit.
The press service of the Internal Affairs Department of the Issyk-Kul region confirmed that a case has been opened under the article “Incitement to suicide” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The physical education teacher was subsequently detained on February 15 and placed in the pretrial detention center.
According to sources within law enforcement agencies, there was a romantic relationship between the teacher and the schoolgirl, which was known to many. A quarrel between them led the girl to take the extreme step of ending her life at the workplace of her loved one, the sports hall. This tragic incident has not only resulted in the loss of a young life but has also led to repercussions within the school administration. Following the incident, the school principal, social worker, and class teacher of the deceased girl were dismissed by the district education center.
The community is now grappling with the aftermath of this heartbreaking event, as they come to terms with the loss of a promising young individual and the implications of the relationship dynamics that played a role in this tragedy. Authorities are working to ensure that justice is served and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
