Investigation into TÜSİAD President for Attempting to Influence Judiciary: Orhan Turan Summoned for Testimony – Latest Türkiye News

The investigation against the Turkish Industrialists and Business People’s Association (TÜSİAD) took a new turn today with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launching an investigation against Mehmet Ömer Arif Aras, Chairman of the High Advisory Board TÜSİAD. The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office also announced that an investigation was initiated about TÜSİAD President Orhan Turan, citing his speech at the TÜSİAD General Assembly on February 13 as a reason for the investigation.
Turan was accused of spreading misleading information to the public and attempting to influence the fair trial. This is not the first time charges have been brought against Turan and Aras, as both individuals were previously investigated and are now being taken to the statement accompanied by police.
In his speech at the general assembly, Turan emphasized the importance of establishing the rule of law in order to address both internal and external issues. However, this statement has garnered reactions from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who criticized TÜSİAD for allegedly trying to put pressure on the judiciary and provoke the nation.
Members of the AK Party have also voiced their opinions on the matter, with Minister of Justice Tunç stating that no institution or interest group is above the national will in the Republic of Turkey. He emphasized that the government does not condone any attempts to influence judicial processes, and that all organizations should respect the principles of democracy and the rule of law.
AK Party spokesman Omer Celik criticized Turan for his past support of military tutelage and guardianship, stating that some non-governmental organizations in Turkey still carry problematic histories. He reiterated that Turkey is a new country that values democratic rights, but will not tolerate any attempts to direct the judiciary or politics.
As the investigation into TÜSİAD continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the organization and its members will respond to the allegations brought against them.
