European Commission to Hold Investor Forum on Sustainable Transport Links between Europe and Central Asia
The European Commission is making preparations for an Investor Forum scheduled to take place on January 29-30, 2024, in Brussels, Belgium. The event aims to bring together representatives from the public and private sector as well as investors who are interested in enhancing sustainable transport connections between two regions of the continent – Europe and Central Asia.
The upcoming Forum serves as a follow-up to a recent study conducted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) regarding sustainable transport links between Europe and Central Asia. The study was published on June 30, 2023, and has been instrumental in informing the discussions and plans for the Forum.
These developments were highlighted during the 19th meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Central Asian countries and the European Union. The meeting, which saw the attendance of Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, provided an opportunity to discuss the upcoming Investor Forum and its objectives.
One significant outcome of the meeting was the unanimous support for holding a gathering of experts specializing in transport from government agencies and private transport and logistics companies. This expert meeting is set to take place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, in the near future and is expected to further enrich the discussions and preparations for the Investor Forum.
Moreover, the European Union expressed its appreciation for the signing of the Agreement on the Interconnection of Land Transport in Central Asia. The agreement, signed during the Fifth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on September 14, 2023, is seen as a crucial step towards enhancing transportation connections within the Central Asian region.
The European Commission’s commitment to improving sustainable transport links between Europe and Central Asia is evident through the organization of the Investor Forum. By bringing together experts and stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, this event aims to foster dialogue and cooperation in pursuit of more sustainable and efficient transport connections.
