Investors’ Extortion Suspects Apprehended
Bishkek – On June 22, 2024, citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan were detained on suspicion of extorting a large sum of money from a foreign investor. The press center of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCNS) reported this incident.
It has been revealed that two men demanded $550,000 from a foreign investor in exchange for the termination of a criminal case related to money laundering by the Kolbaev organized crime group. The suspects claimed to have connections with the leadership of the State Committee for National Security. Following their arrest, the suspects were placed in the temporary detention center of the SCNS.
This case highlights the importance of combating extortion and corruption, especially within the business and investment sectors. The authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure that justice is served and to protect the interests of foreign investors in the region.
