
Is the 5 Lira Iron Coin in Circulation? Key Details Revealed

The 5 TL coin, also known as the iron coin of 5 lira, has been released to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. Approved by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, this special coin has now been put into circulation by the General Directorate of Mint and Stamp Printing House.
A total of 100 million copies of the 5 Turkish Lira coin will be minted, with a market volume reaching 500 million liras. The Ministry’s website states that these commemorative coins were printed only once and will not be reproduced.
The 5 TL coin is made of a mixture of copper, nickel, and zinc, with a diameter of 28.15 mm, a thickness of 1.70 mm, and a weight of 8.25 grams. Featuring serrated edges, the coin showcases the Seljuk star motif on the outer ring and the Türkiye Century logo in the center. The number “5”, the text “TURKISH LIRA”, and the year “2023” are also displayed on the coin.
