Hamas Unveils Weapons and Hidden Missiles in Gaza Tunnels
Hamas, the militant group responsible for the recent major attack on Israel, has showcased the weapons it has produced and revealed the existence of hidden missiles stored in the tunnels of Gaza.
The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, released images of an air defense system named Muteber 1 that was produced in Gaza. According to their statement, this defense system was used to counter Israeli warplanes during the Aqsa Flood operation. Al Jazeera reported that a video released by the Al Qassam Brigades depicted the successful use of this weapon against an airborne target.
Social media has also circulated a video that shows the extensive missile stockpiles in Gaza. The recording begins with a line-up of dozens of missiles, followed by Hamas members transporting these missiles to multiple launch pads. The video concludes with the firing of missiles from Gaza towards Israel. These missiles have been utilized by Hamas during the ongoing conflict, with thousands fired towards Israeli territory. While the renowned Israeli air defense system, Iron Dome, has managed to intercept most of the launched rockets, a significant number have reached their intended targets.
BBC Security Correspondent Frank Gardner, in his recent analysis, addressed the prospect of an Israeli ground operation in Gaza. He emphasized that such an operation would not completely eliminate the threat posed by Hamas. Gardner explained that the armed wing of Hamas, consisting of approximately 30,000 fighters, possesses an intimate knowledge of Gaza’s underground tunnels, cellars, shelters, and back streets. Thus, they hold a significant advantage over any occupying force.
The ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel has entered its fourth day, with no clear resolution in sight. As both sides continue to engage in hostilities, the international community watches with concern, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the violence.
