Israeli Intelligence Services Accused of Manufacturing Explosive Pagers for Hezbollah
In a shocking revelation, Israeli intelligence services have been accused of organizing an operation to manufacture pagers filled with explosives for the radical Shiite group Hezbollah. According to a report by Deutsche Welle, citing an investigation by The New York Times, a front company was established in Hungary for the production of these devices.
The operation was carried out following Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s call for militants to switch from smartphones to pagers, citing concerns about the vulnerability of smartphones to Israeli surveillance technology. Israel seized the opportunity to exploit this shift in communication preference and set up a front company in Hungary, B.A.C. Consulting, to produce explosive-filled pagers.
The devices were then distributed to Hezbollah members in Lebanon starting in the summer of 2022. The Mossad’s pager operation had reportedly been in planning for at least 15 years, involving several front companies to disguise Israeli involvement.
The consequences of this operation came to light with a series of explosions involving communication devices in Lebanon on September 17 and 18. The Israeli intelligence services’ alleged involvement in the manufacturing and distribution of explosive pagers has raised serious concerns about the escalation of tensions in the region.
