“Istanbul Modern’s New Museum Building Now Open for Visitors”

Istanbul Modern Prepares to Welcome Visitors with Its New Building

Turkey’s first modern and contemporary museum, Istanbul Modern, is gearing up to host visitors on May 4th in its new building. Beyazscreen is among the media sponsors for the museum.

The new building of Istanbul Modern was designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, founded by renowned architect Renzo Piano who has also designed iconic cultural and art institutions around the world. This new project, which is Piano’s first and only design in Turkey, was completely focused on the visitor experience in order to provide a qualified place for cultural, artistic, and educational activities.

The five-storey museum building covers 10,500 square meters of exhibition and program spaces, including large exhibition halls, multi-purpose areas, and different cultural and educational spaces. The building, inspired by the shimmering waters of the Bosphorus, is covered with three-dimensionally shaped aluminum panels that create unique plays of light and shadow with the changing sunlight and reflections from the water at different times during the day.

The museum building will soon host five new exhibitions, including “Floating Islands,” “We Are Always Here,” “Renzo Piano: The Spirit of the Place,” “The Construction of Architecture,” and an exhibition called “Elsewhere” with 22 large portraits taken by Nuri Bilge Ceylan in various locations such as Turkey, India, China, and Morocco. The exhibition will open the Istanbul Modern Photography Gallery.

Although the opening ceremony for the new building of Istanbul Modern will be held at a later date, visitors can start exploring the space and exhibitions from May 4th onwards.
