Istanbul Police Detain 568 in Public Order Enforcement

Public order enforcement in Istanbul resulted in 568 detentions, the confiscation of weapons, drugs, and cash, as well as the imposition of over 1.6 million lira in traffic fines.

The Provincial Police Department teams conducted the operation at 221 points across the city between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm. The first phase involved 1444 personnel, who were supported by a police helicopter and 2 boats belonging to the Sea Port Branch. This was followed by the second stage, where 1340 personnel carried out “Peace Istanbul” inspections in public places between 10:00 pm and 11:59 pm.

During the inspections, a total of 243,943 people were screened, leading to the action being taken against 795 suspects wanted for different crimes and 442 individuals who were determined to be evaders. 568 people were subsequently detained.

Furthermore, the searches resulted in the seizure of 37 unlicensed pistols and rifles, 9 blank firing guns, 159 cartridges, 7.471 kilograms of drugs, 10,560 narcotic pills, 148 synthetic drugs, as well as 25,565 liras and 400 dollars, believed to be proceeds from drug-related activities.

Administrative action was also taken against 18 individuals, leading to a total of 32,125 lira in fines being imposed. The inspection of 410 public places also led to action being taken against 2 workplaces and 9 foreign nationals.

Additionally, 39,382 vehicles and 2071 motorcycles were checked, leading to action being taken against 3633 vehicles and 92 drivers. 30 of the vehicles were banned from traffic. In total, over 1.6 million lira in traffic fines were imposed on drivers.
