Istanbul’s Bagel, Chestnut, and Corn Carts Get a Makeover: Last Minute News from Turkey

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to Introduce Innovative Designs for Mobile Street Food Vendors

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has announced that they are working on making the mobile vehicles selling bagels, corn, and chestnuts in various squares and busy streets of the city have a more innovative and aesthetic appearance. The IMM Urban Design Directorate is leading this initiative, focusing on improving the design of mobile sales units located in historical squares and on the shores of the Bosphorus.

To achieve this goal, a total of 9 different concepts have been developed for the mobile sales units. Each concept features unique designs such as arched, cheerful modern, and totem models, which will be used by simit sellers, corn sellers, and chestnut sellers. In addition, all new sales units will be equipped with solar panels to promote energy efficiency.

Furthermore, the materials used for the units will make cleaning easy for users, while a cover system has been designed for cold winter conditions and a platform to prevent users from contacting the ground. These new designs will be showcased to Istanbulites in Beşiktaş Square starting from October 25th, with plans to expand the mobile sales units throughout Istanbul in the future.

Overall, this initiative by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality aims to enhance the visual appeal and functionality of mobile street food vendors, providing a more enjoyable experience for both vendors and customers alike.
