İYİ Party’s Congress Day: Akşener Urges Trust Handover Today

The İYİ Party has announced its new leader during an extraordinary congress following the 31 March Local Government General Elections. Four candidates are competing for the chairmanship in the congress: Koray Aydın, Müsavat Dervişoğlu, Tolga Akalın, and Günay Kodaz.

During the congress, İYİ Party Chairman Meral Akşener made a statement, declaring that today is the day to hand over the trust. She mentioned that after facing challenges and threats over the past 30 years, she has never had any personal interest and has always stood up against pressure and threats without fear. Akşener also highlighted her stance against tutelage on February 28, emphasizing that time has always proven her right.

In a surprising turn of events, Akşener announced that she will not be a candidate again, making her speech a farewell to the party. A total of 1302 registered delegates will vote in the İYİ Party congress.

The congress, held at Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) Congresium, did not allow any spectators due to capacity issues. The organizing committee defended this decision by stating the hall’s limitations. They also addressed allegations of external intervention, affirming that the party has never allowed any form of interference from authorities or institutions.

As the İYİ Party prepares to elect its new leader, all eyes are on the outcome of the congress and the future direction of the party under its new leadership.
