A train has crashed into a truck at a level crossing in Japan’s Fukuoka prefecture, according to Japanese public television reports. The incident took place in the city of Yanagawa, where footage aired on NHK television showed a truck with significant damage next to the halted train. Rescue teams and emergency services are currently on the scene.
Fortunately, the 80-year-old truck driver was able to exit the vehicle before the collision with the train. The reason for the truck stopping at the level crossing is currently unknown. While at least one passenger on the train sustained minor injuries, their life is not at risk. Police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As a result of the collision, train service in both directions on a local line has been suspended, as reported by railway operator Nishi-Nippon. Further updates on the situation are expected as authorities continue to assess the aftermath of the crash.
