Japarov engages Issyk-Kul residents in talks on uranium deposit development
President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, recently held a meeting with activists and local authorities of Ton district in Issyk-Kul region and Kochkor district in Naryn region. The main focus of the meeting was the development plan for the Kyzyl-Ompol deposit near the city, for which residents were provided with current information and had the opportunity to ask questions.
The meeting also addressed various social issues of concern to the residents, including the state program for housing, the fight against corruption, improvements to the public transport system, and the increase of benefits and salaries for healthcare workers and teachers. Additionally, the construction of infrastructure facilities was discussed.
The development of the Tash-Bulak uranium deposit in Issyk-Kul region was also a topic of concern, as previous protests led to the revocation of the license for uranium development and the passing of a law prohibiting the exploration and development of uranium and thorium deposits in the country.
The uranium deposit is situated on the northern side of Kyzyl-Ompol mountain and is surrounded by a ring of mountains, with the small settlement of Kok-Moinok-2 located nearby. Kok-Moinok is also a popular tourist destination, known for its canyons and organized tourist routes.
Overall, the meeting with President Japarov served as an opportunity for residents to voice their concerns and for the government to address pressing issues and provide updates on various development plans in the region.
