Turkish Cypriot Teachers Hold Protest in Nicosia
The Turkish Cypriot Teachers’ Union and the Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union recently organized a protest in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. Activists gathered at the Citroen lights intersection in Dereboyu at 6:00 pm and marched towards the Martyrs’ Monument.
The protest, which saw participation from around 40 organizations in addition to the teacher unions, was organized as part of the ongoing struggle against the ‘Disciplinary Regulation’. The theme of the protest was “No Pass”, and speeches were delivered in front of the Martyrs’ Monument.
Key figures such as Selma Eylem, President of the Turkish Cypriot Turkish Teachers’ Union, and Mustafa Baybora, President of the Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union, as well as representatives from other labor unions, addressed the crowd. They emphasized the determination to continue the fight against government policies and actions that are perceived as detrimental to teachers’ rights.
The protest served as a platform for teachers and supporters to voice their concerns and solidarity in the face of challenges in the education sector. The organizers vowed to persist in their efforts to protect the rights and interests of teachers in Cyprus.
