Munaitpasov, also known as Bala Baluan, started his wrestling journey at a young age, practicing the ancient Kazakh wrestling style known as qazaqsha kùres. However, it was his foray into French wrestling that propelled him to international fame. Under the guidance of Ivan Lebedev, Munaitpasov adopted various stage personas like the Japanese samurai Yamagata Muhanura and the Turkish giant Kara Mustafa. He even competed under the name ‘Black Ivan,’ showcasing his versatility and skill in the ring.
His career reached new heights when he won the gold medal in the jiu-jitsu championship in Harbin and became the world champion of French wrestling in Sweden. Munaitpasov’s success continued as he claimed world championships in Paris and other prestigious tournaments around the globe. His reputation as a formidable and entertaining wrestler earned him the title of the first Kazakh world champion in professional wrestling.
