
President Mirziyoyev Honors Victims of Repression at Martyrs’ Memorial Complex

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently took part in a ceremony honoring the victims of repression at the Martyrs’ Memorial Complex. The event, held on August 31st, coincided with the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Repression. Representatives from various state and public organizations, along with elderly individuals and intellectuals, gathered to pay their respects at the complex.
During the ceremony, Quranic verses were recited in memory of the martyrs, and prayers were offered at the symbolic grave. The occasion, which also marked the Independence Day celebrations, served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation’s luminaries in the name of freedom and homeland.
President Mirziyoyev highlighted the importance of honoring the memory of those who have passed away, emphasizing the sacredness of human dignity and the value of preserving historical truth. He spoke about ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the names of victims of political repression, with over 1,200 individuals already being recognized in the past three years.
The solemn occasion also shed light on a dark chapter in Uzbekistan’s history, with President Mirziyoyev recalling the sentences passed against 507 political prisoners in 1938, leading to the execution of prominent intellectuals and figures. The President’s remarks underscored the country’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that the truth prevails.
As part of the commemorative events, artistic and scientific works, films, and conferences are being organized to honor the memory of the victims of repression. The construction of sacred memorial complexes and the publication of ‘Memory’ books are also part of the ongoing efforts to preserve the legacy of those who sacrificed for the nation.
