Former journalist Kadyr Koshaliev, who conducted an interview with fugitive Kyrgyzstan President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, has temporarily resigned as the head of the Council of Elders of the People’s Kurultai. Koshaliev made the announcement on his Facebook page and transferred his powers as chairman to his deputy, Beishenbek Abdrazakov, until an investigation is completed. The National Broadcasting Corporation is currently conducting an internal investigation into Koshaliev’s interview with the fugitive president. There have also been demands from Talas residents for Koshaliev’s resignation and for Bakiyev’s arrest, with participants of the April revolution holding a rally in Bishkek demanding the same.
