Kakava Festivals: Celebrating the Cultural Tradition in 2023 – Latest News from Türkiye.
The program for the Kakava-Hıdırellez Festivals, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, has been announced. This annual celebration is organized by the Edirne Municipality and began on Friday, May 5th.
The festivities began with an opening speech in Sarayiçi by Edirne Mayor Recep Gürkan and Çeribaşı Fikri Ocak. The highlight of the event was the lighting of the Kakava fire by members of the protocol. This tradition is believed to bring blessings, good health, fortune, peace, and tranquility. The first day of the festival closed with a concert and folk dance performance.
The final day of the Kakava-Hıdırellez Festivals will be held by the Tunca River. On Saturday, May 6, festival-goers will tie wishes to a wish tree and write their intentions on papers to be left in the river.
