
Kamchybek Tashiev Calls for University Leaders to Unite Against Corruption

Kamchybek Tashiyev, deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), recently held a meeting with key figures in the education sector to address the issue of corruption within the field of education.
During the meeting, Tashiyev highlighted the significant progress made by national security bodies in combating corruption. He announced that, for the first time in history, the state has managed to recover a staggering 168.287 billion soms in damages. Additionally, over 1,000 objects have been returned to state ownership, and 1,373 individuals have been held accountable for their involvement in corruption.
In particular, Tashiyev emphasized the actions taken against corruption in the education sector. The SCNS has brought criminal charges against 34 employees in higher education, including university rectors, vice-rectors, directors of educational institutions, deans, and teachers. Forty-two individuals have been dismissed from their positions due to corruption, and over 207.7 million soms have been reimbursed to the state.
Tashiyev also highlighted the various forms of corruption within the education sector, including issues related to licensing, accreditation, admissions, financial activities, and procurement. He stressed the importance of academic integrity and called on teachers and university heads to uphold ethical standards and avoid contributing to the spread of corruption.
Moving forward, Tashiyev outlined the state committee’s plans to reduce the level of corruption in the country to 5-10 percent by 2025-2026. Currently, the corruption level stands at 30-40 percent, a significant improvement from previous years.
