Kazakhstan Dominates World Nomad Games with 23 Awards, Including 13 Gold Medals
On the second day of the World Nomad Games competitions, Kazakhstan’s national team showcased their skills and dominance by winning a total of 23 awards, including an impressive 13 gold medals. The team’s outstanding performance solidified their position as a powerhouse in traditional sports.
One of the standout moments of the day was Batyr Beksauyt’s gold medal victory in Asian-style zhamby atu, a form of traditional horseback archery. Beksauyt’s skill and precision impressed spectators as he clinched the top spot on the podium. Additionally, Aitbek Sarybai and Yeralkhan Aikoz also showcased their talent by winning silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the same competition.
In the audaryspak, or horseback wrestling category, Yermek Kuralbay, Almat Latipbek, and Daryn Otkelbay secured gold medals in the weight categories up to 60 kilograms, 70 kilograms, and 80 kilograms, respectively. Their exceptional performance demonstrated their strength and technique in this traditional sport.
The traditional archery competition, sad atu, saw Kanat Kassymkhan and Aykorkem Batikhan claim bronze medals, while Zhanibek Kulmirzayev took home the gold by hitting the Puta target with precision.
In Qazaq Kuresi, a form of traditional wrestling, Kazakhstan continued its winning streak with Rauza Nurmukhammetova, Aizhan Zhylkybayeva, Nazerke Azamatova, Bekzhan Tolepov, Meyirzhan Bereketov, Didar Tukyshev, and Bakyt Kussakbayeva all capturing gold medals in their respective weight categories.
The kurash tournament also saw Kazakhstan’s athletes shine, with Albina Bakhiyeva winning gold, and Azhar Salykova, Marat Baikamurov, Bekadil Shaimerdenov, and Yerzat Argynov securing silver and bronze medals.
Takhmina Kozhamberdiyeva and Birimzhan Assylmurat added to Kazakhstan’s medal tally by winning bronze medals in mas-wrestling competitions, a traditional sport of the Sakha people.
The highlight of the day was Kazakhstan’s kokpar team’s impressive victory over the U.S. team in the Kok-Boru qualifying round, ending with a dominant score of 18:0. The team’s performance showcased their strength and skill in this traditional equestrian sport.
