Kazakh Flag Flies on Golan Heights
ASTANA – Kazakhstan’s flag was proudly raised at the Fawar peacekeeping base in the Golan Heights on May 7, in a solemn ceremony reported by the Kazakh Ministry of Defense’s press service.
The ceremony, which coincided with Defenders of the Fatherland Day and the formation of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces, marked an important moment for the country’s independent peacekeeping efforts. Earlier this year, Kazakhstan deployed its first independent peacekeeping contingent to the Golan Heights under the United Nations (UN), with 139 military personnel tasked with maintaining a ceasefire between warring parties.
The UN mandate granted to Kazakhstan to independently carry out peacekeeping missions reflects the high level of training of Kazakh military personnel and the country’s growing authority on the world stage. Lieutenant Colonel Zhiger Aipov, commander of the national peacekeeping contingent, expressed the honor and responsibility of representing Kazakhstan abroad, emphasizing the importance of the country’s flag as a symbol of peace, stability, and hope for a better future.
The Kazakh peacekeeping contingent is actively engaged in patrolling, protecting and strengthening checkpoints, and demining explosive objects within their designated area of responsibility.
