Kazakh Rescuers Clear Debris in Afghanistan Earthquake’s Aftermath
Kazakh Rescuers Continue Search and Medical Assistance in Quake-Hit Afghanistan
Kazakh rescuers have been tirelessly searching through debris in Afghanistan for the past 24 hours following a devastating earthquake, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations. The rescuers have combed through 76 sites, with their main focus on the village of Naibrofi in the Herat province, clearing rubble in the hopes of finding survivors.
In addition to the search efforts, doctors and paramedics from the Disaster Medicine Center have been providing medical assistance to those affected by the earthquake. So far, they have treated 39 individuals, including five children. Their quick response and aid have helped alleviate the suffering of the victims.
Unfortunately, a new aftershock with a magnitude of 6.3 struck on October 11, causing further devastation. The aftershock occurred 28 kilometers north of Herat and resulted in the death of at least one person, while over 100 others sustained injuries. The situation remains precarious as rescue teams work tirelessly to provide support and aid to those affected.
Prior to the earthquake on Wednesday, several quakes had already shaken the region since the weekend. These earlier quakes affected more than 12,100 people, including approximately 1,730 families, mostly comprised of women and children, according to the United Nations.
The joint efforts of the Kazakh rescuers and medical teams, along with other international aid organizations, are crucial in providing relief to the affected communities. As the rescue and recovery efforts continue, it is essential for the international community to come together and support Afghanistan during this difficult time.
