Kazakh State Counselor Discusses Anti-Gambling Strategy

The Kazakh government recently announced the adoption of a Comprehensive Plan to Combat Illegal Gambling Business and Gambling Addiction for 2024-2026. This initiative, led by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, aims to address the growing concerns surrounding gambling addiction in the country.

State Counselor Erlan Karin shared the news on his Telegram channel on June 1, highlighting the importance of taking a systematic approach to tackle this issue. The President had instructed the development of this plan during his speech at the third meeting of the National Kurultai in Atyrau.

The draft Comprehensive Plan underwent extensive discussions in expert circles and at the Youth Policy Council before being finalized. It consists of four sections and 28 activities, which will be coordinated by 15 central and 20 local government agencies. The key focus is on fostering collaboration between government entities, non-governmental organizations, and society as a whole to combat gambling addiction effectively.

Furthermore, President Tokayev emphasized the need to address domestic violence during a recent meeting with the science community in Almaty. He signed laws amending penalties for violence against women and children on April 15, underscoring the importance of valuing and respecting women in society.

Overall, these initiatives reflect Kazakhstan’s commitment to promoting a safer and more inclusive society for all its citizens. The government’s proactive stance on addressing issues such as gambling addiction and domestic violence is a positive step towards creating a more civilized and cultured society.
