Kazakh College Students Win Seven WorldSkills Medallions of Excellence
Kazakh college students showcased their skills and talents at the WorldSkills 2024 competition in Lyon, France, and brought home seven Medallions of Excellence. The news was reported by Khabar news agency on Sept. 17.
The WorldSkills competition featured a wide range of disciplines, including IT technologies, robotics, construction, design, fashion, and restaurant service. Kazakhstan performed exceptionally well, ranking among the top 30 countries overall. Students from various regions such as Almaty, Shymkent, Uralsk, Kostanai, Semei, and Pavlodar were recognized for their achievements in their respective vocational fields.
One of the participants, Daniyar Abikenov from Kostanai College of Automotive Transport, shared his experience in the network and systems administration competition. He described the challenges of building a large network using three different operating systems – Linux, Windows, and Cisco. Despite the new format with closed tasks, Abikenov expressed confidence in their performance and adaptation to the unpredictable nature of the assignments.
WorldSkills is known as the largest international competition for young specialists under 25, with a primary goal of developing professional skills and promoting vocational careers and technical education. Natalya Zhumadildayeva, First Deputy Minister of Education, highlighted the efforts to enhance technical and vocational education by integrating startup projects, improving employment opportunities, and supporting university admissions for students.
This year’s WorldSkills competition brought together approximately 1,500 college students from 69 countries, providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and compete at an international level.
