Kazakhstan and China Collaborate to Enhance Cargo Transport through Trans-Caspian Route

Kazakhstan and China Strengthen Commitment to Increase Cargo Volumes along Trans-Caspian International Transport Route

Astana – Kazakhstan and China have announced plans to increase cargo volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), according to a report by the press service of the Transport Ministry on Feb. 26.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Vice Minister of Transport Maxat Kaliakparov and China’s Vice Minister of Transport Li Yang at the 15th meeting of the Transport Cooperation Subcommittee in Urumqi.

Chinese officials expressed their interest in boosting cargo shipments to Europe through Kazakhstan using road transport. Last year, the two countries successfully digitized the permit exchange system for cargo transportation, resulting in a doubling of the number of trips.

In addition to increasing cargo volumes, the parties also discussed opportunities to enhance passenger transport, expand air travel routes, and open new aviation corridors. It was announced that this spring and summer, up to 124 passenger flights per week will operate between Kazakhstan and China.

Furthermore, an agreement was reached to allow unrestricted cargo flights as part of the efforts to strengthen transportation ties between the two countries.

Earlier reports indicated that the construction of the Moiynty-kyzylzhar railway line will contribute to reducing the Trans-Caspian international transport route by 150 kilometers, further facilitating trade and transportation between Kazakhstan and China.
