Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to Establish Industrial Cooperation Center at Shared Border
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are gearing up to collaborate on a new initiative to boost industrial cooperation at their shared border. The two countries are set to establish an Industrial Cooperation Center, aimed at enhancing trade and economic ties between the two nations.
Members of the Kazakh Parliament have recently given their approval for a draft law that ratifies the agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan regarding the operation of the Central Asia Industrial Cooperation Center. This move comes following a decision made at the 20th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation.
The center will be strategically located near the Atameken border checkpoint in Kazakhstan and the Guliston border checkpoint in Uzbekistan. It will comprise of production facilities, warehouses, and transport infrastructure, with the aim of streamlining cargo transportation, reducing logistics costs, eliminating intermediaries in supply chains, and ultimately cutting down the final cost of products for consumers. Additionally, the initiative is expected to improve delivery speed and promote manufacturing cooperation within the North-South transport corridor.
Covering a total area of 100 hectares, the facility will be divided equally between the two countries, with 50 hectares allocated to each. This designated site will be granted the status of a regional industrial zone.
Funding for the development of the center’s infrastructure will come from non-budgetary sources, as confirmed by reports from Kazinform.
The establishment of the Industrial Cooperation Center represents a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and is expected to bring about mutual benefits for both countries in terms of trade and industrial cooperation.
