Kazakhstan Anticipates Harvesting 17 Million Tons of Wheat by Year-End
Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture Forecasts Wheat Harvest of 17 Million Tons by 2024
The Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture has projected a wheat harvest of 17 million tons by the end of 2024, as reported by Kazinform on July 23. These expected volumes are anticipated to be sufficient to meet the domestic market demands and also allow for the export of specific quantities.
Comparatively, Kazakhstan’s total wheat harvest was recorded at 16.4 million tons in 2022 and slightly decreased to 12.1 million tons in 2023. According to data from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the global wheat harvest in 2022 amounted to 808 million tons, with Kazakhstan ranking 14th worldwide. The top wheat-producing countries included China with 138 million tons, India with 108 million tons, and Russia with 104 million tons.
During the first half of 2024, Kazakhstan’s overall agricultural output saw a 3.4% increase, reaching 1.6 trillion tenge (approximately US$3.3 billion). Of this total output, 1.5 trillion tenge (US$3.1 billion) was generated from livestock products, while crop production contributed 83 billion tenge (US$174.9 million) to the overall figure.
This positive forecast for the wheat harvest in Kazakhstan is promising for both the local market and potential exports, showcasing the country’s continued growth and stability in the agricultural sector.
