Kazakhstan Plans to Establish Industrial Cooperation Center on Border with Uzbekistan with Over $50M Allocation
The Senate of Kazakhstan’s Parliament has given the green light to a new law that paves the way for the construction of the “Central Asia” International Industrial Cooperation Center in a border region shared with Uzbekistan.
As reported by the Kazinform international news agency, this industrial cooperation center will be strategically positioned near the “Atameken” checkpoint in Kazakhstan and the “Guliston” checkpoint in Uzbekistan.
The center is anticipated to house production facilities, warehouses, and transport infrastructure, all of which will greatly enhance cargo transportation efficiency, decrease logistics costs, simplify supply chain operations, and ultimately lead to reduced product costs for consumers.
With a designated area of 100 hectares, the center is slated to be designated as a regional industrial zone. Initial projections suggest that an investment of roughly 27 billion tenge (equivalent to around $54 million) will be required for the project.
Deputy Alisher Satvaldiev shared his optimism about the center, stating, “This international industrial cooperation center will not only generate employment opportunities but also boost the processing of agricultural and industrial goods, and promote development in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering, chemicals, leather, textiles, and sewing industries.”
In a separate decision made in early February, lawmakers approved a legislation titled “On the Ratification of the Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Regulating the Activities of the ‘Central Asia’ International Industrial Cooperation Center.”
Furthermore, there are discussions in progress about the potential establishment of a Kazakhstan trade center in Tashkent and an Uzbekistan trade center in Astana, signaling a potential strengthening of trade relations between the two countries.
