Kazakhstan Ready to Increase Grain Exports to China to Three Million Tons
Kazakhstan is prepared to boost its grain exports to China up to three million tons, announced Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov during discussions with Wang Jianjun, the Director of the Economy and Trade Department at the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission.
Cooperation in agriculture serves as a crucial element in Kazakh-Chinese relations, as stated by the ministry’s press service on August 19. The turnover of agricultural products saw a significant increase of 1.7 times in 2023, surpassing $1.3 billion. In the first half of this year, the figure reached $648.1 million, marking a 12% rise compared to the same period in 2023, including $460 million in exports and $188 million in imports.
Saparov expressed Kazakhstan’s keen interest in exporting agricultural products, particularly grains, to the Chinese market. While both parties had initially agreed to raise the volume of grain exports to 2 million tons, Kazakhstan now stands ready to supply 3 million tons of grain to foster mutually beneficial cooperation.
Delegation head Wang Jianjun emphasized that their visit to Kazakhstan primarily aimed at discussing trade matters. He acknowledged Kazakhstan as a strategic partner and a key grain supplier, stressing the need to establish clear import volumes to ensure uninterrupted supplies.
Discussions between the parties also delved into the development of Kazakhstan-China grain trade cooperation and logistics. Currently, Kazakhstan has inked agreements with China for the export of 28 varieties of crop and livestock products, highlighting the growing partnership between the two nations in the agricultural sector.
