Kazakhstan Provides Support to Earthquake-hit Türkiye with New School in Nurdağı District

Kazakh President Initiates Construction of School in Gaziantep Province

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Dec. 19 in Türkiye’s Nurdağı municipality in Gaziantep Province for the construction of a school, initiated by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Gaziantep Province was among the areas worst affected by the devastating earthquake that struck on Feb. 6 last year. The Kazakhstan Agency of International Development (KazAID) has been appointed as the operator for the construction of the school, which is set to serve as a symbol of Turkish-Kazakh unity.

During the Organization of Turkic States summit, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed his gratitude to Kazakhstan for the support provided. He emphasized the importance of Turkish-Kazakh brotherhood and the need for cooperation among Turkic countries in the current global landscape.

“I am confident that this school will become one of the symbols of Turkish-Kazakh brotherhood to which future generations will be faithful. In the current global environment, the countries of the Turkic world must strengthen their cooperation. Kazakhstan has taken important steps, and this construction is a vivid confirmation of that,” President Erdoğan said.

The ceremony was attended by Kazakh Ambassador to Türkiye Yerkebulan Sapiyev, Governor of Gaziantep Province Kemal Çeber, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education of Türkiye, and KazAID.

The initiative to construct a school in Gaziantep Province not only highlights the importance of education but also strengthens the bonds between Turkey and Kazakhstan. It is a testament to the commitment of both countries to work together for the betterment of their citizens and future generations.
