Kazakhstan Ready to Share Digital Solutions with ESCAP Member States

Astana – Kazakhstan is prepared to offer more than 20 specific digital solutions to the member states of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), stated Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu during discussions with Armida Alisjahbana, the United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary General and ESCAP Executive Secretary on April 22, as reported by the Foreign Ministry’s press service.

The discussions included plans for joint initiatives, such as hosting the UN Ministerial Conference on Digital Technologies in Astana in September and establishing the Center for Digital Solutions in Almaty.

The meeting, which occurred during the 80th session of ESCAP in Bangkok, Thailand, centered on harnessing digital innovation for sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific region.

Nurtleu emphasized that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev places a high priority on innovation and digital technologies in his new economic policy, recognizing Asia and the Pacific as a new hub for global economic growth and technological advancement.

Kazakhstan has demonstrated leadership in the fintech sector, notably through the success of the Astana International Financial Centre. The country is ranked 28th globally for e-government service provision and eighth for online service quality.

Nurtleu extended an invitation to ESCAP member states to collaborate with Astana Hub, the largest IT startup park in Central Asia, highlighting the successful operations of over 900 companies in Kazakhstan, including industry giants like Google, Microsoft, and Huawei.

Recognizing the crucial role of digital solutions in enhancing transport connectivity, Nurtleu urged for increased coordination among regional countries and the adoption of the new ESCAP Convention on uniform rules and standards in the transit sector.

Additionally, Nurtleu engaged in discussions with Fatima Rabab, the UN High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States, regarding preparations for the third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

Moreover, the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry organized a side event titled “Digital Expansion: Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals.”

As the largest of the UN regional commissions, ESCAP addresses various issues including environmental protection, natural resource management, investment cooperation, trade, energy, and transport matters.
